"Cellevision" Reaches Arab World


Qtel (Qatar Telecom), the exclusive telecommunications provider in Qatar and one of the largest public companies in the country, recently announced new enhancements to their Mozaic Mobile TV service offering a broader array of channels, reports Al-Bawaba. International and Arabic packages will be available, giving access to up to 23 channels, including news, sports, cultural, entertainment, and children's television, streamed direct to mobile phones.

Considered to be one of the most advanced and exciting developments in regional mobile television, this new feature will allow users to access programs, sporting events, and news at any time and place.

The full range of international and Arabic channels includes news (Al-Jazeera and Al-Jazeera English, CNN International, CNBC Europe and CNBC Arabiya, and BBC World), Islamic (Iqra), sports (ESPN Europe, ART Sports Channels, and AlKaas), entertainment (AsianNet, B4U Music, Al Safwa, Arabic Series Channel, and Rotana Moussica) and children's television (Cartoon Networks, Boomerang, and Al-Jazeera Children's Channel).

Adel Al-Mutawa, Executive Director of Group Communications, elaborates, "Today's launch of the enhanced Mozaic Mobile TV Service builds on our heritage as the pioneer of mobile TV in the Gulf region to deliver our most exciting service to date."

Al-Bawaba remarks that according to a recent global study by Ericsson and CNN, globally, mobile TV is the number one application users want on their phone, with 34% of respondents ranking TV as the most desired application and almost half of the respondents poised to adopt mobile TV in the next two years.
