Layalina Internships

Layalina is seeking interns to receive training and hands-on experience in media research and television production development. Interns will leave with a strong understanding of non-profit management, international media, television production, and public diplomacy efforts in the Muslim world. Interns who distinguish themselves in their duties will have the opportunity to interact with major media players, work in conjunction with Layalina's senior leadership, and receive production credit for their efforts.

Layalina Productions Development Internship

Duties include:

  • Assist in the development of upcoming television projects
  • Help conduct background research as required for ongoing projects
  • Manage Layalina's social media presence
  • Represent Layalina at public diplomacy events in Washington, DC
  • Assist with donor management and occasional data entry
  • Assist with various administrative duties as needed

Qualifications include:

  • B.A./B.S. degree in Political Science, Middle East Studies or similar, with a keen interest in non-profit work and international media
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with an ability to work independently and multi-task
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven organization
  • Demonstrated interest in the Middle East, public diplomacy, Arabic, and/or international media a must

Successful undergraduates pursuing relevant degrees will also be considered.

The Loren Savitsky Memorial Production Internship

 

Duties include:

  • Assist in the development, pre-production, production, and post-production of Layalina shows
  • Manage show-specific social media presence
  • Assist with various administrative duties as needed

Qualifications include:

  • B.A./B.S. degree in film, public relations, Middle Eastern studies or similar, with a keen interest in non-profit work and international media
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with an ability to work independently and multi-task
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven organization
  • Demonstrated interest in the Middle East, public diplomacy, Arabic, and/or international media a must

Loren Savitsky

This internship is named in memory of Loren Savitsky, who worked as a 1st camera assistant and gaffer on the first and second seasons of On the Road in America and was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2009.

The Thomas W. Ludlow Ashley Memorial Editorial Internship

Duties include:

  • Research news outlets for applicable stories
  • Write grammatically correct, non-partisan articles
  • Contribute to the editorial discussion
  • Assist staff in writing grand proposals and in coordinating fundraising outreach to foundations, individuals, and corporations
  • Conduct fundraising research
  • Write short feature stories
  • Draft and distribute correspondence and written materials including meeting notes
  • Plan logistical support for staff, board, and fundraising meetings
  • Help coordinate all aspects of development, production, and post-production of Layalina's television programs

Qualifications include:

  • B.A./B.S. degree preferred
  • Office work experience required in public relations/marketing and/or fundraising in the non-profit and/or private sector
  • Strong writing, editorial, organizational, and communication skills
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database management experience
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task
  • Interest in promoting greater understanding between the U.S. and the Arab Middle East

Successful undergraduates pursuing relevant degrees will also be considered.

Thomas W. Ludlow Ashley

 

This internship honors the memory of the Honorable Thomas W. Ludlow Ashley, a founding Layalina director, advocate for international broadcasting, and accomplished member of the United States House of Representatives. Ashley interns will contribute to the Layalina Chronicle and help edit Perspectives.
