On the Road in America (Ala al Tariq fy Amrika) is Layalina's reality travelogue series produced in association with Visionaire Media of Los Angeles. Academy Award-nominated and multiple Emmy award-winning producer Jerome Gary is the series' creator, director and executive producer.
The series follows four Arab university students traveling on their first visit across the United States and adheres to Layalina's primary goal of fostering cross-cultural exchange and understanding. The cast of season 1 begins their journey with skepticism and curiosity but emerges with a more comprehensive view of the US, its people, and policies. The show aired in early 2007 in primetime on the Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC) network, one of the most watched and credible pan-Arab broadcasters, and garnered 4.5 million viewers per episode, according to an Ipsos-Stat survey.
The TV series aired in the United States on both coasts every Wedesday from June 4 through August 20 2008 in primetime on the Sundance Channel. Layalina is grateful for the positive domestic and international media coverage that On the Road received.
This program is made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation of Indiana.
