Layalina’s entrepreneurship reality mini-series to air throughout Arab world on Alhurra TV
WASHINGTON, DC, November 20, 2014 – Layalina Productions, Inc., an American non-profit, announced that its multiple award-winning reality mini-series Generation Entrepreneur will premiere today on Alhurra Television, the Arabic-language satellite television channel. The broadcast coincides with the 5th Annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Morocco and with Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Generation Entrepreneur features the efforts of young Arab entrepreneurs competing for incubation funding to start companies as part of INJAZ Al-Arab’s entrepreneurship program. The episodes follow teams in Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia as they launch their startups, elect officers, issue stock, market their product or service, and compete in their respective national competitions for a chance to advance to the regional competition in Doha, Qatar.
The episodes are character-driven, with a cast of enterprising students who believe in the promise of economic opportunity at a time when the surging youth population has led to record youth unemployment and underemployment throughout the region. Each episode reveals the cast members’ personal and professional challenges. In the nail-biting finale, the winners from each episode compete head to head against twelve other Arab countries in the hopes of winning the title of Arab Company of the Year.
“We welcome this opportunity to partner with Layalina Productions. The Generation Entrepreneur mini-series is a great complement to Alhurra’s extensive coverage of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Morocco,” stated Brian Conniff, President of Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN). MBN manages and oversees Alhurra Television. “We hope we can continue this successful relationship with Layalina well into the future.”
Leon Shahabian, Layalina’s President, stated, “We hope that Generation Entrepreneur will inspire young Arab viewers to become innovators as they confront the challenges of soaring unemployment and underemployment throughout the region. We look forward to working with Alhurra to bring these and other compelling stories to millions of viewers.”
Layalina’s latest mini-series embodies the spirit of Global Entrepreneurship Week and the mission of the Summit, which brings young entrepreneurs together with government officials and corporate leaders and provides a platform for emerging entrepreneurs to promote their innovative projects and ideas.
Generation Entrepreneur is a Layalina production, in association with INJAZ Al-Arab. It is directed by Shawn Thompson and created, written and executive produced by Leon Shahabian.
